How to Get Clear Skin for Guys

The first thing people notice when they meet someone is their face. Healthy, clear skin can go a long way toward making a good first impression and boosting self-confidence. Guys deal with the same skin problems as women do: acne, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation and oily skin. The American Academy of Dermatology states that one quarter of the 17 million Americans with acne are men. Clear skin for guys does not need to be complicated or expensive and many effective methods of improving the skin can be done at home.

Things You'll Need :

Fragrance-free soap
Exfoliating scrub
Moisturizer
Skin toner
Sunscreen, SPF 30 or higher
Over the counter acne medication

Step 1
Keep your skin clean by washing it every day to remove dirt and oil. Avoid using soaps that contain a lot of chemicals or perfumes, as these may irritate your skin and contribute to redness and acne.
Step 2
Use a scrub at least once a week to remove dead skin cells and unclog your pores. Change products if you experience discomfort during or after use.
Step 3
Moisturize your skin daily after washing and shaving. Moisturizing your skin will keep it healthy and help prevent wrinkles. You can buy light moisturizers at most pharmacies and grocery stores, or use aloe vera or vitamin E oil on your skin.
Step 4
Try a toner if you have large pores or many ingrown hairs. Toners and astringents can reduce pore size, but they may be irritating when used on sensitive skin.
Step 5
Protect your skin from sun damage by wearing sunscreen every time you are outdoors. Sun damage causes age spots, wrinkles and skin cancer.
Step 6
Exercise and eat a balanced diet every day to improve circulation, unclog pores and obtain the vitamins and minerals needed for healthy skin. Sweating during exercise helps remove toxins from the body. Vitamin A, vitamin B, vitamin E and zinc are all beneficial to the skin. The American Academy of Dermatology states that eating fatty foods, chocolate or other "unhealthy" foods does not cause acne.
Step 7
Try an over the counter acne medication containing salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. Salicylic acid works by unclogging pores, while benzoyl peroxide helps destroy the bacteria responsible for causing acne. However, these products can be very drying which makes moisturizing and exfoliating essential.
Step 8
Speak with your doctor about prescription acne medications if you have more than a few blemishes. A dermatologist can help you identify possible causes of your acne, such as hormonal imbalances or other conditions and can prescribe a medication designed to treat your specific case. Antibiotics, anti-inflammatory medications, and vitamin A derivatives can all help treat acne and reduce the risk of scarring.
Step 9
Ask about cosmetic procedures to get clear skin. Dermabrasion, microdermabrasion, collagen injections and chemical peels can help remove damaged layers of skin tissue, thereby reducing the appearance of scars, age spots and wrinkles.
Step 10
Undergo laser therapy to decrease your skin's production of oil or to remove scars left on your skin by acne. The laser used during this procedure reaches deep layers of skin to damage oil-producing glands. Laser therapy does not harm the skin's surface.
Best of luck.
