Besides praying to the plant, a number of people advice including the leaves and roots of the plant in various medical decoctions. With immense benefits right from clear skin to dissolving kidney stones, tulsi is tonic for the entire body. Here are the top 10 benefits of tulsi.

Cures a fever: Tulsi has very potent germicidal, fungicidal, anti-bacterial and anti-biotic properties that are great for resolving fevers. It has the potential to cure any fever right from those caused due to common infections to those caused due to malaria as well. In ayurveda, it is strongly advised that a person suffering from fever should have a decoction made of tulsi leaves.

In case of a fever boil a few leaves of tulsi with powdered cardamom in half a litre of water( The proportion of tulsi to cardamom powder should be in the ratio 1:0.3). Let it reduce to half its total volume. Mix this decoction with sugar and milk. Sip every two to three hours.
This remedy is especially good for children. Beats diabetes: leaves of holy basil are packed with antioxidants and essential oils that produce eugenol, methyl eugenol and caryophyllene. Collectively these substances help the pancreatic beta cells (cells that store and release insulin) function properly. This in turn helps increase sensitivity to insulin. Lowering one’s blood sugar and treating diabetes effectively. An added advantage is that the antioxidants present in the leaves help beat the ill effects of oxidative stress.

Protects the heart: Tulsi has a powerful anti-oxidant component called Eugenol. This compound helps protect the heart by keeping one’s blood pressure under control and lowering his/her cholesterol levels. Chewing a few leaves of tulsi on an empty stomach everyday can both prevent and protect any heart ailments. Beats stress: According to a study conducted by the Central Drug Research Institute, Lucknow, India, tulsi helps to maintain the normal levels of the stress hormone – cortisol in the body. The leaf also has powerful adaptogen properties (also known as anti-stress agents). It helps sooth the nerves, regulates blood circulation and beats free radicals that are produced during an episode of stress. People who have high stress jobs can chew about 12 leaves of tulsi twice a day to beat stress naturally.

Dissolves kidney stones: The holy basil being a great diuretic and detoxifier is great for the kidneys. Tulsi helps reduce the uric acid levels in the blood (one of the main reasons for kidney stones is the presence of excess uric acid in the blood), helps cleanse the kidneys, the presence of acetic acid and other components in its essential oils helps in breaking down kidney stones and its painkiller effect helps dull down the pain of kidney stones. To relieve kidney stones one must have the juice of tulsi leaves with honey, every day for six months to help wash out the stone from the kidney. Beats cancer: With strong anti-oxidant and anti-carcinogenic properties tulsi has been found to help stop the progression of breast cancer and oral cancer (caused due to chewing tobacco).
This is because its compounds restrict the flow of blood to the tumour by attacking the blood vessels supplying it. Have the extract of tulsi every day to keep these conditions at bay. Helps to quit smoking: Tulsi is known to have very strong anti- stress compounds and is great to help one quit smoking. It helps by lowering the stress that may be involved in trying to quit smoking, or stress that leads to the urge to smoke. It also has a cooling effect on the throat just like menthol drops and helps control the urge to smoke by allowing the person to chew on something. Ayurveda relies heavily on tulsi leaves as a smoking cessation device. Keep some leaves with you and chew it whenever the urge to smoke arises. Another plus is that the antioxidant property of the leaves will help fight all the damage that arises out of years of smoking. Keeps your skin and hair healthy and glowing: The holy basil has powerful purifying properties.

When eaten raw, it purifies the blood giving the skin a beautiful glow, and prevents the appearance of acne and blemishes. Its anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties are very effective in preventing breakouts on acne prone skin. Ayurvedic doctors say that this herb can cure difficult skin conditions like those caused due to ring worms and even leucoderma. Apart from all this, it helps in reducing itchiness of the scalp and helps to reduce hair fall. Mix the powder in coconut oil and apply regularly to the scalp to prevent hair fall. Eating tulsi leaves, drinking the juice, or adding its paste to a face pack can help cure skin and hair conditions. Heals respiratory conditions:

Tulsi has immunomodulatory (helps to modulate the immune system), antitussive (suppresses the cough center, reducing the amount of cough) and expectorant properties (helps expel phlegm from the chest), that make it a great relief for coughs, cold, and other respiratory disorders including chronic and acute bronchitis. Another great property of this leaf is that it has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties that help to beat the infection causing the respiratory problem. It also relieves congestion since it contains potent components like camphene, eugenol and cineole in its essential oils. Its anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory properties also help to treat allergic respiratory disorders. Cures a headache:

Tulsi helps to relieve headaches caused due to sinusitis, allergies, cold or even migraines. This is because it has pain relieving and decongestant properties, that help relieve the pain and resolve the root cause of the condition. If you are suffering from a headache, make a bowl of water that has been boiled with crushed tulsi leaves or tulsi extract. Cool the water till it is room temperature or bearably hot. Place a small towel in it, wring out the excess water and place this on your forehead to treat a headache.

Alternatively you could dip a towel in plain warm water and add a few drops of tulsi extract to the towel for immediate relief. These are just some benefits of the plant, other benefits include treatment for common colds, itchiness of the skin, treatment for insect bites, curing common conditions of the eye and as a herbal remedy for bad breath. So the text time you feel ill, try having a few leaves of tulsi. All the best.

Aloe Vera Juice & Hair Growth

৮:৪২:০০ AM
Aloe vera is a plant that goes by many names: medicinal aloe, true aloe, Chinese aloe, Indian aloe, Barbados aloe, burn aloe. They all refer to the same plant, though--the spiky-leaved, green, succulent plant with serrated edges and incredible moisturizing power. The soothing properties in aloe vera juice or gel make it a natural choice for dry, troubled hair.

To remove the juice or gel from an aloe vera plant, cut off a mature leaf with a sharp knife (older leaves have the most nutritional value). Remove the spiked edges and slice the leaf open. Use a spoon to scoop out all of the gel. For the juice, break the leaf and squeeze it into a cup. If you don't have your own aloe plant, you can purchase the leaves, gel and juice at health food stores.

Instead of your regular conditioner, whip up this moisturizing, aloe-based gel. Use 1/4 cup aloe gel, and combine with the juice of 1/2 lemon. Mix in a few drops of your favorite essential oil(s) for fragrance and extra moisture. Apply after shampooing, leaving it on for three to five minutes.

For superb hydration, leave aloe vera juice in your hair overnight. You can mix it with cold-pressed oils such as olive or avocado for extra conditioning. Wet your hair with the mixture, put your hair in a shower cap, and drift off to sleep. In the morning, rinse well (if you used pure juice) or shampoo and condition (if you added oils).

The benefits of aloe vera are still being researched, but it contains two substances called "macrophages" and "superoxide dismutases"--both of which have been considered as possible hair growth stimulators. The anti-inflammatory properties of aloe are wonderful for inflamed follicles, and the plant is so soothing that there's no harm trying it out. Apply aloe vera juice or gel directly to the scalp and massage it in. Leave it on for a few hours or overnight, and keep an eye out for new hair growth.

The gentle, soothing feeling of fresh aloe vera juice is wonderful for itchy, irritated or sunburned scalps. Break a leaf and squeeze it directly onto hair. Rub it gently into the scalp and leave in. Reapply whenever the irritation resurfaces.

How to Use Aloe Vera Gel for its Many Benefits

৮:৩১:০০ AM
Oh, the wonderful things that pure aloe vera gel can be used for. For years, I knew that the gel from the aloe vera plant was a good healing agent when applied to burns, scrapes and wounds. But I have come to learn just how much more I could use aloe vera gel for, and here, I will share some of these uses and benefits.

USE ALOE VERA FOR THE SKIN
Apply the gel from an aloe vera leaf directly onto skin abrasions, cuts, sunburns, scalds, blisters, cold sores, rashes, and insect bites to help fight bacteria and avoid infection. The gel also has the ability to soothe pain and regenerate skin cells to promote healing with no or little scaring. Apply aloe gel 2-3 times a day to the area/wound until it is healed.

Use aloe vera gel for general skin care. Use the gel alone or along with your favorite skin cream to help better soften and moisturize the skin. Because aloe regenerates skin cells it is also known to reduce wrinkles, eczema, acne, sun/age spots, and other blemishes. It is also gentle enough to use to care for the tender skin after radiation therapy.

The gel taken from the aloe vera plant can also be combined with wheat-germ oil and safflower flower to reduce bruising.

TRY ALOE ON THE SCALP AND HAIR
Applying aloe vera gel to the scalp is a good treatment for dandruff, seborrhea (dermatitis), psoriasis and hair loss that has resulted from these conditions.

Use the gel from an aloe vera plant to substitute your commercial hair gel; rub or comb small amounts through your hair and style as usual.

USE ALOE VERA FOR PERIODONTAL CARE
Apply aloe vera gel directly to damaged or diseased gums to reduce inflammation, pain, and to promote healing. Include aloe gel in dental hygiene regimens to help fight tooth decay and reduce plaque.

TRY ALOE FOR EYE CARE
To create an eyewash, dissolve ½ tsp of powdered aloe gel in one cup of water. To accelerate the healing process add one teaspoon of boric acid. Pour the solution through a coffee filter before applying to the eyes.

TRY ALOE FOR STRAINS AND MUSCLE PAINS
Because the gel of the aloe vera plant is known to absorb quickly into the skin and reduce inflammation and pain, it also works well on sprains, strains, muscle pains and arthritic pain. Apply aloe gel along with a cold compress to the sore area 2-3 times per day.

USE ALOE FOR INTERNAL BENEFITS
Aloe gel is believed to provide relief from stomach disorders, kidney ailments, and headaches, just to name a few of aloe's internal healing benefits.

Using the yellow juice, called latex found just beneath the surface of the leaves can serve as a powerful laxative.

The gel from aloe vera also contains magnesium lactate that serves as an antihistamine, which may help to relieve sinus and chest inflammations caused by allergies.

Because aloe can have a strong laxative affect do not ingest the yellow latex found in the skin of the leaf or be cautious of the amount taken as a laxative. It is best to ingest aloe by gently blending the gel, taken from between the leafs, in a blender with juice or water.

GROW YOUR OWN ALOE VERA PLANT
Using pure aloe vera gel from its plant form is best, as its cellular activity tends to be reduced when mixed with other chemicals.

Growing your own aloe vera plant can be fairly easy as its only requirements are lots of warm sun and little water. It does not like cold temperatures below 40 degrees Fahrenheit or cold, drafty areas. It takes the aloe vera plant about 4 years to reach full maturity of about two feet tall, which is when the gel from an aloe vera leaf holds its greatest benefits. Be sure to transplant it to larger pots as it outgrows it's current one.

How to Create a Three-Season Flower Bed

৮:৫৩:০০ AM
Designing a flower bed allows gardeners to get in touch with their artistic side and express their creativity. Taking a blank area of yard and turning it into a blooming bouquet not only allows them to accentuate the landscape, it helps them to create a small oasis of beauty on their property. With careful planning and plant selection, you can easily create a flower bed that will bloom from the spring through the fall; as one flower fades, a new one arrives to take its place, continually filling your yard with color.

Determine where you would like your flower bed to be located. For nonstop blooms, you should consider a mixture of perennials and annuals. While each flower has its own set of ideal growing conditions, in general, this sort of arrangement does best when given southern exposure that receives at least six hours of sun each day.

Outline the shape and size of the intended flower bed with an old garden hose or stakes and string. Use a measuring tape to determine the length and width. On a sheet of graph paper, create a scale drawing of your flower bed. For example, one square on the graph paper could represent 1 square foot of garden.

Choose your flowers. Browse a gardening catalog and look for plants that appeal to you. Make three lists: one for flowers that bloom in the spring such as creeping phlox or peonies, one for flowers that bloom in the summer such as lavender or day lilies and one for flowers that bloom in the fall such as asters or painted daisies. Take note of the height of each plant at maturity, as this will affect the overall design of the flower bed. Additionally, you will need to pay attention to the lighting requirements for optimum plant growth and select varieties that have similar needs.

Plot your garden on paper. Draw in the flowers on the graph, as this will enable you to visualize the finished product. Generally, tall flowers are placed in the center of the flower bed or to the back, depending on whether the bed has 360-degree access or is positioned next to a building or other structure. Short, ground-hugging specimens are placed near the front and around the border.

Purchase your flower seeds or seedlings and plant them according to the planned design. Spread 3 inches of organic mulch in any open areas and around the base of any transplants. This will restrict the growth of competitive weeds and will help the soil to retain moisture.

How to Teach Children to be Kind to Animals

১:১২:০০ PM
The love of animals seems to be innate for all children, but that doesn't mean they always know how to behave around animals. Children can be cruel to animals often because they don't know any better. It is important to teach children to be kind to animals so they grow up with respect for others.

Demonstrate kindness towards animals through your own actions. Always show your child that animals deserve respect. Pet and hold animals correctly and never speak of harming animals.

Show your child the correct way to pet and hold animals. Teach your child to ask permission before approaching another person's animal. Talk about why an animal may react negatively around people.

Discuss with your children why it's inappropriate to tease animals. Tell them that animals are living, breathing creatures capable of feeling pain. Ask your child to describe proper ways of playing and interacting with animals.

Watch your child's interactions with animals. Make sure an adult is present when an animal is around your child. Observe your child showing kindness to animals.

Contact your local Human Society or animal shelter. Ask the staff if they teach animal safety and kindness classes. Take your child to the shelter to learn about how to behave around different types of animals.

Allow your child to have a pet of their own. It can be as simple as a fish. A child who has the responsibility of caring for an animal learns to love and care for animals in general.

Be kind & love...
